Search Switzerland Criminal Dockets

Start your Switzerland County criminal court docket search with the public case summary, then go to the clerk when you need an official paper. Indiana calls this event list a Chronological Case Summary, or CCS. It follows charges, hearings, motions, pleas, outcomes, and sentencing in the county trial court. Search the Switzerland County criminal court docket by case number or party name, read each setting and result, and confirm key facts with the record keeper. Some criminal information stays limited, since access rules guard sealed, expunged, and confidential material.

Switzerland County Criminal Docket Searches

Begin with MyCase Case Search, the public Odyssey interface for Indiana. Set the court to Switzerland County and pick Criminal & Citation as the category. The Case tab takes a cause number, citation number, or cross-reference. The Name tab takes a last name. Optional first and middle names and an optional date of birth can narrow it further. A sounds-like option helps with tricky spelling. Keeping the court and category narrow cuts down false matches.

Use the cause number whenever you can. A current Switzerland Circuit criminal number starts with court identifier 78C01. After that come the filing year and month, a case code, and a six-digit sequence. The official MyCase search tips cover name limits and how results behave. Broad repeated searches can trip anti-data-mining controls.

  1. Open MyCase and choose Switzerland County.
  2. Select Criminal & Citation for the category.
  3. Enter one cause number or a well-narrowed name.
  4. Open the matching case and review its CCS.
  5. Ask the Circuit Court Clerk for an official copy.

Online access is not the only route. MyCase may lack the item you need. In that case, contact the Switzerland County Circuit Court Clerk by phone, email, mail, or in person at the counter. Staff can walk you through copy fees, payment methods, mailing, pickup, and ID requirements. The county posts no criminal-record request form, search fee, or turnaround promise. Confirm those details before you send anything.

Switzerland Criminal Docket MyCase Help

The official MyCase help page draws a key line. The public CCS is helpful case information, but it is not the court's official record. That distinction matters when you rely on a deadline, bond term, plea, or outcome. The clerk holds the official trial record.

The state's search template lays out the same fields. They sit behind any Switzerland County criminal docket search. View the official MyCase search template that drives case, name, and attorney searches.

The screen helps you pick the right tab before opening a CCS, so a name match never gets treated as proof of identity. The official search-tips screen also explains wildcards and how to narrow results.

Those tips earn their keep when several people share one name, or when an older event carries limited converted data. Match the entry to the case before trusting it.

Criminal Dockets: What They Show

A Switzerland County criminal CCS opens with the case number, court, caption, case type, filing date, status, and judge when available. Party and attorney names follow. No protected personal data is exposed. The dated event list then logs filings, hearings, orders, and comments. Linked documents show up only when the access matrix allows them.

Case headerCause number, 78C01 court, case type, caption, file date, status, and judge.
Charge blockAgency, statute, offense description, filed degree, plea, and charge-level disposition where available.
CCS eventsEvent and entered dates, label, description, judge, comment, and any public document link.
SettingsDate, time, location, judge, hearing purpose, cancellation, and result fields.
OutcomePlea, dismissal, trial result, sentence, credit, costs, probation events, and appeal entries as applicable.

Case status and charge result are not the same thing. One charge may get dismissed while another ends in a plea. Financial figures can also lag online, and MyCase sends users to the clerk for current balances.

Switzerland Criminal Docket Codes

Indiana Administrative Rule 8 assigns each case type a short code. The code names the kind of proceeding, never the outcome. Read it beside the filing date and the CCS description.

MR
Murder case.
F1 through F6
Current felony-level codes, with older files sometimes using CF or FA through FD.
CM
Criminal misdemeanor.
MC
Miscellaneous criminal matter.
PC
Post-conviction proceeding.
RF
Red-flag firearm proceeding.

Infractions usually carry IF, while ordinance matters may show OE or OV. A traffic citation is not automatically a criminal misdemeanor. The charge block and the offense description settle that question. Indiana publishes no Switzerland-specific event-code legend. Never read an opaque entry as a conviction without its description or the underlying order.

Criminal Case Stages on the Docket

Early CCS entries may list a complaint, information, indictment, or general opening event. Charge fields then add the agency, offense code, statute, degree, and modifier. An initial hearing or arraignment comes next. The court takes up the accusation, counsel, plea posture, and bond. The CCS may summarize that event without a full transcript.

Pretrial entries often include discovery, motions, status hearings, continuances, plea settings, and trial settings. Local rule LR 78-CR-1.4 grants automatic general discovery. It covers murder, felony, and Class A misdemeanor matters in Switzerland County. It generally puts state and defense disclosures within thirty days of the stated triggering events. A continuing duty to update applies. Check the current local rule before relying on any deadline.

Docket flow: Filing → Initial Hearing → Pretrial → Plea or Trial → Disposition → Sentencing

A setting is not proof a hearing happened. Read the result, a later order, or a reset entry. After disposition, the docket may show sentence terms, credit, suspended time, costs, probation events, or an appeal. An appellate cause number points the next search to the Court of Appeals of Indiana.

Switzerland Criminal Docket Documents

Online access through CCS covers a lot. But not every criminal paper in a Switzerland County case is online. Some filings stay at the courthouse. The Indiana public document matrix explains the split: sentencing orders may be public, while charging papers, discovery, and exhibits stay limited by type or access level. So a docket entry can name a document you cannot yet read from home.

Want the full picture of what is online versus what you must request in person? Check the official public-document access matrix published by the Indiana courts.

Some Switzerland County cases show a full case chronology online. Yet almost no papers are attached to it. That gap is normal. The docket view lists what happened, while the documents themselves stay limited.

Parties with a stake in a case can see more. An Indiana Courts account lets them request access to additional records in their own case.

The Indiana party-access instructions walk through the account setup. They also cover the access-code steps the state requires.

Party access is not unrestricted public access, and a sealing order still controls who may open the record.

Switzerland County Criminal Docket Courts

Every current Switzerland County criminal matter runs through Switzerland Circuit Court, the 91st Judicial Circuit, under identifier 78C01. The Switzerland County Circuit Court Clerk holds the court records. Felony, misdemeanor, post-conviction, and related records all sit in that one trial-court system. No active Vevay or Patriot city or town criminal court appears anywhere. Check the official local directory, the Odyssey list, the statewide structure pages, or the 2019 Judicial Service Report. Pick Switzerland County or 78C01 in a docket search. Do not hunt for a municipal dropdown.

An old 78D01 Switzerland Superior Court Odyssey entry carries an abolished flag. It is dated December 6, 2021. Treat it as history, not a second county court. One court handles everything. So a criminal docket case never hops between clerks based on offense level. The same elected circuit clerk keeps the court docket throughout. Traffic and infraction records share the system. Though they carry their own codes and case path.

Switzerland Criminal Docket Caseload

Caseload numbers from Indiana Courts Online Reports give a feel for how busy the Switzerland County criminal docket is. But they cannot predict how long any one case takes. For 2024, Switzerland Circuit Court reported 315 new criminal filings and 432 criminal dispositions. Step back to all case groups and the volume grows. The court logged 1,166 new filings and 1,354 dispositions overall. 686 matters were still pending.

Why would dispositions beat new filings? Courts also close cases filed in an earlier year. A big disposition total therefore says nothing about how many of that year's cases actually ended. For detail, ICOR sorts outcomes into jury trial, bench trial, bench disposition, dismissal, guilty plea or admission, and other categories, while the CCS remains the better source for tracking one case from start to finish.

Access Rules for Criminal Dockets

Indiana Access to Court Records Rule 4 starts from openness. Rule 5 then walls off sealed cases, personal identifiers, victim and witness data, medical and mental-health material, and other confidential records. Juvenile, adoption, expunged, and court-sealed items may simply be missing or redacted in a docket.

Key Rules:

Administrative Rule 9(E) requires specified remote case information and daily docket fields.

Access Rule 4 establishes the general public-access baseline.

Access Rule 5 identifies excluded and protected court records.

A missing case has several possible explanations. First confirm the exact 78C01 case number and category. Then ask the clerk about the record. It may be sealed, expunged, confidential, not converted, or just outside the online document set. Parties with authenticated access can still reach the documents that are available. Excluded material may take a procedure under Access Rule 9 or a court order. The state's MyCase overview shows the public-information warning every user sees before searching.

Switzerland County criminal docket MyCase access warning

That warning makes one thing plain. Only the clerk can issue a certified record. MyCase terms of use also limit bulk collection and reliance on the data.

Such limits keep the CCS working as public court information, not a data-harvesting source.

Switzerland Criminal Docket Bond Entries

Switzerland County local rules publish bond starting points by offense class. Treat the table as a guide, not a promise. The judge can depart from the schedule. And a listed serious allegation can hold a person without bond until the initial hearing. Read the CCS for the real order. It also covers any later modification, release, forfeiture, or warrant event.

Cash bail comes with a fee. The local bail agreement lets the clerk keep ten percent of the cash or fifty dollars. Whichever is less becomes an administrative charge. The court can apply remaining cash to costs, fines, probation, restitution, or appointed representation under the rule. One caution: the published local bond material dates to 2014. Confirm current terms with the court before relying on any figure.

Myth: the schedule fixes bond in every case.

Fact: it supplies starting points, while the entered judicial order controls the actual case.
